Our Projects
Since 2012 the German Lao Association for Development (GLAD) is located in Vientiane and aims to establish long term improvements of living conditions in the rural areas of Laos. Throughout the years and with the support of our local team and international partners we were able to implement 8 long term projects and 104 small scale projects throughout the country as visible on the map to the right. In 2018 we opened our second office in Thateng to be closer to our projects in the South of Laos. Because of the amount of different projects we divided them into three main aims listed below for your understanding. Education
The educational projects are divided into two directions:
1.) Setting up young entrepreneurs through vocational training including carpenters, mechanics, tailors, hairdressers, electricians etc.
2.) Supporting early childhood development through training teachers on child centered teaching methods. Furthermore we want to create a good learning environment by strengthening the school management, providing healthy nutrition for the children during their school days, while also focusing on the children’s needs like toy making and game training.
Strengthening Communities
Until today many rural areas in Laos are in need of the basic infrastructures to maintain a healthy and strong community. Therefore we aim to lay the essential foundation for the everyday needs. That includes the building of primary schools, kindergartens and dormitories, the necessary construction of water and irrigation systems as well as establishing community markets and health centers.
Supporting Local Agriculture
Our agricultural projects contain enabling various forms of farming. The two main directions divide into the support of local plantations such as pepper and sacha inchi fields and also animal farming including goat and pig breeding.
